I love intricate blocks, but am not crazy about Y-seams, so I decided to create a project that looks harder than it is to make! These blocks can actually be pieced; however for this simple project I decided to "applique" them using a satin stitch. Because the fabric is fused to the batting, you only have to cover the raw edges to prevent fraying. No binding is needed with this technique either! :) Enjoy! BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Use a rotary cutter Operate your sewing machine Change feet on your machine Use an iron to fuse materials Choose your fabrics ;) SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 18" x 15 5/8"

Recommended with this pattern

  • Variable - please see third picture for materials
  • Iron and ironing surface
  • Zigzag foot for your sewing machine

Quiltinjeni is a quilting instructor/pattern designer/fabriholic and stay-at-home Mom of three! I enjoy making things to give as gifts and love fabric and hand-made items. I have been crocheting since I was 12 years old and quilting for the past 11 years. I began teaching quilting techniques in 2004, designing patterns in 2006 and have been published in Asian Fabrics Magazine (issue #10 and #11). My favorite part of quilting now is the quilting and binding of a project. I currently quilt on my Bernina Artista 200. :) I look forward to improving my machine quilting skills as time goes on and hope to win a national competition someday! See for other interesting stuff! :)
