Missed my free 2014 Applique Mystery Quilt Along.... but still are intrigued with this project? You can still create this beautiful quilt with the download of this paid version. And if you submit a finished photo of your quilt, (in 2014); you'll be added to the list to receive a free invite to my 2015 Applique Mystery Project. To save money on this pattern, I will be offering it for only $4.95 for the month of September 2014. (You'll save $4.) All lessons have been edited to reduce duplication in how the quilt along was delivered week by week; and anything that no longer applies. The pattern contains 49 pages. Please read through ALL instructions before you begin this project, as there are several options to consider, along the way. For inspiration; and viewing completed blocks, visit the Gallery on the website to see my own blocks; or visit the Facebook page to see current participants sharing their quilt blocks. How it works: ......To create these unique applique blocks; your inspiration is taken from events in your life (or the person for whom you are making this quilt) as the name given to this quilt, "Life's A Journey" suggests, whether real or imaginary. ......The applique templates are reversed and ready to draw onto the fusible web paper. ......There are ten pieced blocks; twelve appliqued blocks; and two specialty blocks. ......This project is a perfect way to utilize fabrics in your stash; and ALL the blocks can be made completely with scrap fabrics. If you prefer making wall-hanging quilts; this will make the perfect project. (Although, if you wish to make it larger, there are two layouts to show you how to do this.) Benefits include: much less time, money, and fabric needed to complete this delightful scrappy quilt; the perfect gift for someone special. Fabric requirements shown here are for the wall-hanging size. Hope you give this one a try! BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Operating a sewing machine; using fusible web; rotary cutting tools; and understanding basic quilting terms. If any of these are unfamiliar - there are lots of resources available online. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Quilt size: approximately: 33" x 33" This quilt can be made larger, two options are included.

Recommended with this pattern

  • Applique blocks: (background fabric) - 7/8 yard (should be in a variety of colors; or a variety of colors in one color family) (so scrap fabrics also work perfectly here)
  • Pieced blocks: (3/8 yard total) - using scrappy fabrics in a variety of colors
  • Backing fabric: 1 yard

Sewing began my 'adventure with fabric' in seventh grade, from making my own clothes, to now having a passion for quilting. I love the creative process and completion of each project is more important than striving for perfection. Presently, I like to blend applique with scrap quilting techniques and finishing my quilts with the quilt-as-you-go technique. After 14 years of quilting, I still haven't learned how to FMQ, but perhaps, it can till happen. When away from my sewing space, it's counted cross stitch and hand embroidery, I'll be working on. I love how creative this platform is; and still enjoy learning new things every year.
