PATTERN DETAILS

As the theme of these mini quilts was originally to showcase how to make our computer station more quilt friendly; I designed "cat and mouse" and "mac and me". The third one to fit into this technology theme was inspired by the Windows logo. Since my wish was to enlarge this concept and represent my flag; I updated my original design that now includes fifteen different flag styles. These styles will each be available separately; to keep the cost the same as the other mouse pad designs. Most include variations from the original style to show you how easy it is to adapt the style to similar flag designs. [O] MULTIPLE-PIECE DESIGN: Featuring--UNITED KINGDOM This design has multiple pieces. To simplify the process to create all the white and red stripes on this flag, they are placed on separate blue corner pieces. An applique pressing sheet is very helpful for correctly placing all the applique pieces. A full-size image layout is included to create this complex design. This pattern includes instructions and all template pieces for each variation where pieces differ from the featured flag style. Both variation flags are created using the flag base. Scotland includes two methods to create this flag. One works for Jamaica, as well. [Variations: England and Scotland] BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY If you know how to sew a straight line using a sewing machine, you can quilt. There are many simple methods to create complex looking designs. All you need is to learn the techniques to create them. For machine applique, you learn to use fusible web and fancier stitches, such as the zigzag and buttonhole stitches to finish the raw edge technique. If you are uncertain about fused machine applique, as a fun technique to add to your quilting repertoire; try it with either of my free patterns: [Sweet Roses-size: 23" x 23" or My Pod-size: 9" x 7"]

Recommended with this pattern

  • Front & Back - 1 piece each: 9" x 7"
  • Applique Design* - (scrap pieces): colors and sizes will vary
  • Binding - 1 piece: 42" long x 2 1/4" wide (this may be pieced to achieve that length)

Sewing began my 'adventure with fabric' in seventh grade. Fast forward about three decades, and it was machine applique that won my attention. Presently, I like to blend applique with scrap quilting techniques; and share my e-patterns here. I do still love new fabrics; however, am on a quest to turn my fabric stash into scrappy quilts. 2016 found me making scrappy cuddle quilts for family. In 2017, I plan to return to making small quilts, of which, are my favorite size.
