Dancing Maples is an original quilt pattern for a table runner or wall hanging and six placemats. Rolled-back folded bias edges give these leaves curves and apparent movement as they float above the background, but there is no curved piecing. Avoid directional prints for the leaf and background fabrics because the fabrics will be cut and sewn on various angles. If you would like scrappy leaves, replace maple fabric requirement with a 9" x 10" fabric scrap for each leaf. Instructions are included for quilted veins on the leaves and meanders in the background that make the leaves really pop. Dancing Maples makes a great house warming or thank you gift. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Intermediate quilting skills including an accurate scant 1/4" seam. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 16" x 42" runner 12 1/2" x 17 1/4" placemats

Recommended with this pattern

  • 1 yd or 1 m background
  • 3/4 yd or .6 m maple fabric
  • 3/8 yd or .4 m zinger

Hi! I am Janet Barker from Calgary, AB. I have been quilting for 16 years and have been designing my own quilt patterns for about 9 years. At the request of my guild, I started publishing my patterns in 2011. My pattern testers, customers and students have been very happy with their results using my new patterns. I love seeing another quilter's version of my designs! My patterns often incorporate completely original blocks, or at the very least new twists on standard blocks. In addition to standard piecing, I have three other types of designs - folded back bias curves (sometimes called Cathedral Windows curves), geometrics using "grout", and tessellations. So far I have not incorporated curved piecing or applique, but that may come! I have an engineering degree and am a retired geophysicist; perhaps that is why I love the geometry of quilting! I hope that you will enjoy stitching up some of my designs. Visit me on Facebook at Wholesale inquiries welcome.
