Pattern Details

The pattern reminds me of a business building stairwell. Not that a stairwell inspired me though. My friend, Dan, is a firefighter. Every year he participates in the Scott Firefighter Stairclimb which is a fundraiser for the Lymphoma Leukemia Society. In 2010 he participated in honor of my mother (and her photo in his helmet) who had been diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. And every year he climbs with her photo in his helmet. It's 69 flights of climbing and these men and women are in full, coat, oxygen tank, helmet... In honor of Dan's commitment (and his fellow firefighters) I named this quilt after him. It's a simple quilt and fun that uses fat quarters. One fat quarter will make one block. 9 fat quarters makes a good sized baby quilt! So many variations and it changes with the fabrics you use. Looking for information on how to make it with yardage or scraps? Check out the blog post! BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY stitch 1/4" seam, use a rotary cutter and ruler SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Smallest quilt is 56 x 56

Recommended with this pattern

  • fat quarters that coordinate with the number of blocks in the quilt (9 fq's = 3 x 3 quilt), accent fabric starts at 1/2 yard (you'll need more depending on # of fq's), and two border fabrics (again, amount depending on # of fq's)
  • basic sewing supplies: sewing machine, thread to match, scissors, seam ripper, rotary cutter, mat and ruler

These bio's always make my brain go blank. So I'm going to try to keep it simple. I think I'm a regular girl. Wife, mom, quilter, gardener and dancer (of ballet). I've tried a lot of things but these last three things fit me better than all the others and they make my heart exceedingly happy. My business for the last 9 years has been primarily longarm quilting. However, at the end of August 2016 I am closing the doors on that part of the business and will be solely focussed on quilt pattern design and homeschooling my girls. And making jam. I love jam. And my puppies. I love them too. I'm looking forward to this new season and where it takes me. You can follow along with my adventures on my blog: or on instagram:
