While creating my shoe shop quilt, I decided to make this into a series of four quilts to have the opportunity to try out all four polka dot fabrics in my collection. This quilt starts with a grid of twelve blocks, and then each is appliqued with images -- all relating to a barber or hair salon. Continuing the concept from the shoes quilt; I again used words to go all around, and changed the polka dot fabric to red. Then I enjoyed adding more fancy buttons to complete the design. This is a fun project to complete and will bring wonderful thoughts of that perfect hair day! Pieces are cut to these measurements -- blocks are 4"; polka dot border is 1.5"; outer border is 3.5". Lettering is Segoe Marker in two sizes. This 19-page PDF pattern has colored illustrations of each appliqued block, clear instructions, and full-sized templates for the applique process. Both lettering and appliques are reversed and ready to trace onto the fusible web. Use my fabric choices as your guide and have fun with this project. Then you decide whether to add the wording or leave them out. Enjoy! Win a free pattern (Oct 17-27, 2013 only). Preferable, you would also have knowledge of fusible applique and cutting out fabrics using rotary cutting tools. If not, you can still learn by referring to quilting books that teach these methods. From the different applique techniques, I like this one the best -- and it is the easiest to do. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Quilt size: approximately: 22" x 18 1/2"
