Pattern Details

How do you express exuberant celebration? You hang a pennant banner bursting with colors over a background of exploding fireworks of flowers and patterns and stripes. How do you keep the celebration going? Sew it all together into a quilt to keep forever. I named this quilt pattern "Celebration" because the colors, flowers, stripes and banner are all designed to announce a joyful welcoming. The fabric I chose was from Alexander Henry's "Fulham Road" line, but the most exciting modern designers all carry exploding fabric patterns with complementary stripes. This pattern maximizes the impact of the beautiful prints while at the same time elegantly economizes the time and effort needed to achieve the amazing results. Each pennant is sewn individually and then onto the quilt to create a true hanging banner effect. "Celebration" is a quilt as you go project. That means that you assemble all the quilt layers in sections, quilt each section and then sew the sections together. The entire quilt is finished in about the same amount of time it takes just to make a traditional quilt top. To make it even faster and give a frilly edge to the quilt, there is no binding, just a clipped edge. To give added texture to the quilt, the seams are sewn inside out and clipped to give a chenille style edge to the inside seams. The seams are designed to fray to the stitches, giving a relaxed, unaffected look to the quilt. Every step in this quilt was planned to create the most beautiful quilt possible in the most efficient way possible.
