Lemoyne Star Quilted Trivet taught by Yahaira Ferriera

Interested in learning to quilt? Been wanting to try a Lemoyne star quilt block, but feeling intimidated by y-seams or hand stitching? Or, maybe you just need a fabulous hand-made housewarming ...

What materials did you use? Cotton fabric and same batting as per instructions for trivet

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Don't try new products when you've got a tight deadline!!! Tried a new basting spray... OMG what a mess I got in, not to mention how many times I had to clean the needle. Ended up soaking in Napisan over night and that got rid of the worst of the gunk. Helmar certainly smelt better but that was the only good thing about it! Needless to say I returned the can and wont be using that brand again.

Beautiful! I agree about 505, I also use 404. Love your quilting lines :-)

Shucks, thanks! Super, another vote for 505... no sign of 404 here.

Did you get the pattern for the placemats and the ocasters from the class or did you make up your own or "reduce" the original pattern? Love them, wonderful job. I need to learn to stipple and then.....

Thanks! These were all based on the workshop instructions for the Lemoyne Star Trivet and I reduced the sizing. Measurements for the coasters can be found on my green coasters and the placemat centre block are 10" blocks with sides added on. Stippling is FUN!!!!

These are beautiful Pam, love your quilting, do you do this on a regular home machine?

12/03/2012 Flag

Thank you DeGramma, yes all done on a regular sewing machine. This set was done on a borrowed 20 year old Bernina 1230... I've since "had" to treat myself to a new machine, but not a top model by any means :-)
