Tell us a little more about your inspiration. One of my favorite things to do as an artist is to go to our local zoo and photograph the animals in unique "poses" with natural light, trying to capture as much movement as possible. I loved the photo I took last Fall of the Rio Grande Zoo zebras, so decided to paint this one.

Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this piece. This one was a lot of fun! I lightly sketched, then painted the shadows, as if they were white horses. I added all the stripes last. I mostly use M. Graham Watercolors, as well as Winsor & Newton, and some Daniel Smith. Arches 140-lb. paper, cold-press.

Ruth...You are a very good artist. If I may say so it is too realistic. To me, this is a very good photograph. The challenge is to be a realist but still look like a watercolor painting! Think about what I have said & how you would acheive that style.
