Paper Mache Elephant

Project Description

What inspired your paper craft project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo Paper Mache Baby Elephant Link to website or photo ultimatepapermache.com/paper-mache-animal-sculptures/baby-elephant-yard-sculpture What are you most proud of? The painting on the body is based on designs found in artwork of the same time period, but drawn by me. I am not much of an artist and free hand drawing the intricate geometric and symmetrical shapes onto a lumpy bumpy object was particularly challenging. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Make sure you know what you are going to do with a 2 1/2 foot tall elephant once you have it. This guy is in my basement, taking up a lot of space.

What you will need

  • A little bit of everything. Dry wall
  • lumber
  • screws
  • coat hangers
  • glue
  • metal fencing
  • tape
  • acrylic paint
  • pencils
  • faux gold leafing
  • spray fix.

LOL laughing cause I collect elephants and I love your comment under advice. At one time I had close to 1000 elephants in my home. He is beautiful and you did a wonderful job, Donate to a good cause, church bazaar, school I am sure you will find a home.
TumpedDuck answered:
Thanks! There is actually a Turkish cultural center somewhere here in the city I live in. I have been considering trying to see if they would like it, considering it is part of their cultural heritage and stuff.
FaithMaria asked:
I want to try this. How big is it completed?
TumpedDuck answered:
Mine is about 2 feet tall and probably 3 feetl long - it is pretty big. I believe the original set of instructions linked to makes one that is larger than mine.
pvatti asked:
Hi, I would like to do this project... where would I find the instructions?
TumpedDuck answered:
I used the instructions from http://www.ultimatepapermache.com to build the base and made up the decorations myself.
