My inspiration for this tatted candle was the quotation, "It's better to light one candle than to curse the darkness." (An ancient Chinese proverb and motto of The Christophers, Inc.) There is a lot of possibility for color play in this tatted candle design, since it is made of 3 distinct sections. The candle uses block tatting for the solid candle area with tatted rings overlapping it to simulate "wax drips". Complete instructions and many step by step photos are in the pattern. If you have tatted basic rings and chains before, making this design would be a good way to expand your tatting skills. If you have trouble downloading the file to your device, send an email describing the problem to BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Tatting rings, chains, joins, lock joins, using 2 shuttles SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS In size 20 thread, about 2 and 1/2 inches (6cm) tall, and about 1 and 3/4 inches (4.5cm) wide Size will vary according to the thickness of the thread used

Marilee Rockley has been a driving force in modern tatting. Her designs, which have appeared in various magazines as well as her book Tatted Jewelry, make this Victorian art accessible to modern tastes. As a go-to source of information about tatting history and methodology, Marilee is on the forefront of the tatting revival. She also dyes her own tatting threads, so that she can control color and create visual interest that can't be found in commercial threads.
