Whale Sweater

Project Description

What advice would you give someone starting this project? The waves can be knitted as fairisle (stranded knitting with the yarn carried over) The fish and whale should be knitted as intarsia (separate small amounts of yarn per fish and whale)

What you will need

  • Just 3 colours; blue (main colour)
  • small amounts of orange and white. Knitted in Sirdar Snuggly double knitting yarn. Although any double knitting yarn will do with the tension 22sts and 28 rows to 4" (10 cm)

I adore it I'm an avid crocheter know some knitting but it looks would be for my 5yr. Old nephew who loves nemo
iknitdesigns answered:
Hi Iris. It is all knitted in stocking stitch with 2 knit x 2 purl ribs. You will need small separate balls of yarn for the whale and fish and just follow the chart provided and change the yarn when required (twist the changing yarn on the reverse of the knitting). I have a "How to" video link on my website ( which gives good instruction on Intarsia. The waves are knitted in fair isle (stranded). So you will need the white and blue yarn and knit the stitch with the appropriate colour according to the chart again twist the yarn on the reverse side. The collar is knitted separately in rib and then sewn onto the garment at the end. The pattern is very clear and the chart is in colour. I hope you have a go! Kind regards
