Lace for my Grandma

Project Description

What was your source for this knitting project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo Haruni Link to website or photo What are you most proud of? This was the first pattern I wrote down, it took a lot to get it to make sense to others! Now people around the world are knitting it and sending me photos. What advice would you give someone starting this project? This pattern is long, and it can look intimidating at first. Just read through the whole thing before you start, and use lifelines.

Q&A with knitterain

KatyPie asked:
You will think me very ignorant, but what IS a lifeline?
knitterain answered:
A lifeline is just a contrasting pice of yarn (waxed dental floss works great with lace yarn) that you thread through all the stitches on your needle before moving on to a new chart, or new repeat. That way if you make a mistake and need to rip back, you can just take your knitting off the needle, rip it out until you come to your lifeline, then it won't rip out anymore, and you can just pick up all your stitches without worrying that you missed any. Many knitters like to add a lifeline about every 10 rows - or every pattern repeat, so no matter what happens you won't lose more than those 10 rows. Hope that makes sense!
