Austrian Lace Stirrup Leg Warmers

Project Description

What was your source for this knitting project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo HeartStrings #A29U Austrian Lace Stirrup Leg Warmers Link to website or photo www.heartstringsfiberarts.com/a29.shtm What are you most proud of? Classics like this live on. And I hope you enjoy seeing and knitting this pattern, as well as the wearing. Tailored twisted-ribbing lace patterns enhance the leg portion and becomingly conform to the shape of your calf. Then plain twisted-ribbing continues onto the foot to comfortably hug ankle and arch. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Dont be too intimidated by the seemingly complicated-looking stitch pattern. It actually is quite repetitive and easily read after youve got a few rounds of the pattern underway. Some other features that you will appreciate are ~ the way the twisted-ribbing lace patterns decrease in pattern to becomingly conform to the shape of your calf ~ there is a gusset underneath the foot that allows the stirrup to comfortably hug instep and arch

What you will need

  • fingering weight sock yarn: Shown in Tilli Tomas Artisan Sock Yarn
  • color Mist

Q&A with JackieES

Janis G asked:
I love the look of this and wonder if there is a scarf pattern like it. If not can it be modified from a sock to a scarf easily?
JackieES answered:
For Austrian twisted stitches such as in this stitch pattern (i.e. twisted every round/row), most people find it tedious to do the twisted stitches on the wrong side return row if working flat as in a scarf. How about doing a scarf "ring" where you are always working in the round? Look up my HeartStrings #H45 Ring of Lace Wrap pattern to see the possibilities in wearing a scarf like this. Have fun!
