For this cowl, I created a stitch pattern that would fold and roll like the dramatic hills around the ancient Etruscan town of Volterra. Working an odd number of rows in simple lace makes a fabric that moves in two directions, both with the diagonals of the decreases, and in pleats. The result is a strip that can be made into a moebius or classic tube, forming a cozy accessory. The pattern has the option of using either a super bulky yarn (the blue-green sample shown used exactly 1 skein of Rasta), or about 120 yards of a Aran/bulky weight yarn (brown sample, handspun). Because of the odd number of rows in the Herringbone Lace, the knit side and purl side of the stitch pattern alternate as the strip is knitted, making a fabric that is fully reversible without a right or wrong side. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY knit purl yarn over ssk ssp k2tog seam or graft GAUGE 10 stitches and 12 rows = 4 inches in Reversible Herringbone Lace with super bulky yarn Pattern also provides options for bulky/aran yarn. SUGGESTED YARN 90 yards of Bulky weight PREFERRED BRAND/YARN Malabrigo Rasta COLORWAY Solis

I've dabbled in most crafts, but now, I mostly I design knitwear. Always pushing to be more imaginative and innovative, I combine thoughtful details and techniques to create a beautiful product that is a joy to wear. I specialize in creating stitch patterns and inspiring modification. All my life I have been a maker and used my hands to create. Knitting was one of the earliest crafts I was taught. I was four when my mother showed me the basics. I have grown to love knitting for it's variety - it can be simple and meditative, geometric and challenging, sculptural, fashionable, or any and all of the above in the same garment at different stages.
