This sideways-knit garter stitch shawl features an unusual tentacular edging and optional beads, and recalls Harry Potter's Venomous Tentacula, a green, spikey plant with mobile vines that grab living prey, aggressive shoots that expel venom, and a poisonous bite. The sideways edging is made by repeatedly binding off and casting on stitches, creating a pattern of "holes." Any yarn and any amount may be used; instructions are given for adjusting for different yardage. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Techniques Used: knit, increasing/decreasing, casting on (cable CO and backwards loop methods), beading (crochet hook method). GAUGE Gauge: 24 stitches and 28 rows/4" in garter stitch, after blocking. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Size: 50" wingspan by 20" depth; edging is approximately 6" deep.
