This cowl is knit with super bulky Malabrigo Rasta yarn and features an elongated Estonian shell stitch that really helps to highlight variegated colorways. The shell stitches are framed by simple lace and cabled edgings. The cowl can be fastened in multiple ways using buttons or ribbon threaded through yarnover holes. It can be made to suit both men and women, depending on yarn color and closure choices, making it a great gift for everyone! The pattern includes one size that can be adjusted for length and/or yarn availability. As written, the cowl measures 9" (23 cm) wide, 30" (76 cm) long after blocking and uses the entire skein. Other notions needed are either 47" ( 119 cm) of 1.5" (4 cm) wide polyester ribbon or 2-3 large buttons at least 1" (2.5 cm) wide. I highly recommend using straight needles for this project as the shell stitch involves multiple wraps that will get hung up on the joins of circular needles. This pattern has been test knit and tech edited. Hi! My name is Alicia. I'm a knitting ecologist with a weakness for socks, shawls, and shiny pretty yarn. My designs reflect what I like to knit: simple, easy-to-work patterns appropriate for knitters-on-the-go that result in elegant, wearable garments. Other than knitting I love poetry, books, music, and science. I'm engaged to a wonderful guy (a.k.a. the Fiasco) and we have a very sweet cat, Calypso, and new kitten, Darwin.
