I love the Saxon Braid cable pattern and thought it would make a great cap. The tricky part was figuring out how to graft the cable in pattern (illustrated instructions are included in the pattern). This 11-page pattern includes both written instructions and a chart for knitting the cable strip (you can use either or both); written instructions for picking up stitches and knitting the crown and bottom edging of the cap, with three edging options (including one I call Braided Bind-Off, which I haven't seen before); pictures of the completed cap; and a 5-page photo tutorial on grafting the stitches together in pattern (including a summary at the end to help you graft other patterns). I was taught the basics of knitting, crochet, embroidery, and sewing by my grandmother when I was young. I have found that I enjoy doing a variety of fiber related crafts, and have over the years learned to spin yarn, weave, tat, braid, felt and bead. But the greatest satisfaction for me comes from using my God-given creativity to create my own designs and techniques.
