Salute is a brimmed hat for men (and women too) of all ages. It's worked band first, then stitches for body and brim are picked up and knit. Practice or learn short-row shaping technique, and even try out some buttonholes. This classic design can be personalized in so many ways, including adding stripes to the brim as shown. Pictured in Adult Large and Toddler sizes (both green and striped hat versions). BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY working in the round picking up stitches short row shaping basic increasing & decreasing cable cast on GAUGE 19 stitches and 25 rows per 4 inches in stockinette SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Finished Circumference: 12 (14, 16, 18, 20, 22) inches Size: Up to 6 Months(6-12 Months, Toddler, Child, Adult Small, Adult Large)

  • Size 7 (4.5 mm) 16" (Smallest through Child sizes) or 24" (Adult sizes) circular needles and set of 5 DPNs, stitch markers

Kate's When I Grow Up line is for those of us who are not tots, featuring a modern classic style. Kate also strives to add specifically to the growing body of knits for boys as she has three of her own! You can find her patterns at your local yarn store or online. She also does freelance work for a variety of publications. In her non-knitting life, Kate has just finished up a PhD in Political Science from the University of Florida. She lives with her family in South Carolina, which includes husband Ryan, Jesse, Charlie & Oliver (3 very handsome Tot Topper's models) and beloved dogs Cooper and Lou.
