PATTERN DETAILS

This plant-dyed cardigan was co-designed by Shannon Okey (knitgrrl.com, knitgrrl on Ravelry) and Andi Smith (knitbrit.com, knitbrit on Ravelry) Depending on how many colors you choose to dye, you may need more or less yarn. A good substitute if you don't want to dye your own is Blue Sky Alpacas' beautiful organic cotton, which comes in many shades, including naturally-colored cotton. The sample here used Lion Brand Organic Cotton. You could also just purchase a cone or two of Lily Sugar and Cream yarn, or similar, and experiment with dyeing in three colors. Throughout the pattern, there are references to C1, C2 and C3 (colors one, two, three), accordingly. You will need the most of color one, which makes up the majority of the body. Colors one and two, the darker pink and ocher colors, use less. You can also knit the pattern as one color, of course, or work your way through your stash/leftovers! The yarns used in the sample pictured above were hand dyed with plants (see the book Alt Fiber for details and howtos). GAUGE 18 sts/25 rows per 4" SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 32 (36, 40, 44, 48)" finished bust
