In the tradition of Fellowship! the Shawl, here comes another half-circle shawl inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, this time following the character progression and journey of a single member of that fellowship, Frodo Baggins. There will be eight separate clues, to be released throughout the month of September. The first clue is available now, to give you a taste of what's to come. Each clue will have descriptive tie-ins that trace my inspiration from story to stitches. The knit-a-long part will be conducted in this thread in the Lord of the Rings group. It would behoove you to have at least some previous lacework experience, but it isn't necessary. There are two options for the shawl border: one is more traditional and accessible to beginners and the other is somewhat innovative and advanced. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Basic lace stitches (yarnover, k2tog, ssk) knit purl chart-reading GAUGE 6 stitches and 8 rows = 1 inch in stockinette stitch SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 20 inches deep by 43 inches wide SUGGESTED YARN 450 yards of Fingering weight PREFERRED BRAND/YARN Knit Picks Stroll COLORWAY Sapphire Heather
