Inspired by Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons from Game of Thrones, this lace shawl is deceptively easy to knit. The Mother of Dragons shawl was created to look like the wing of a dragon. The lace pattern mimics the intricate scales found on dragons and leads down to a fine point lace edging, like the points on dragon wings. The Mother of Dragon Shawl is worked in 3 sections beginning with a garter stitch tab at the center neck. The body of the shawl is worked over a series of increase rows in sections 1 and 2 with garter stitch edgings to prevent the edging from rolling. The the lace edging border is worked across the bottom edge of the shawl incorporating all of the boarder stitches so there is minimal binding off at the end. This pattern, as well as all of my patterns, has been test knitted and checked for clarity. The Blue Ridge Mountains form the backdrop for my home in Central Virginia. It’s a beautiful area and the surrounding countryside provides inspiration for many of my designs. The ever changing colors of the seasons remind me of the hand dyed yarns that I enjoy using in my designs. I strive to create patterns that are fun to knit and easy to follow. I hope that you will enjoy knitting them as much as I have enjoyed designing them.
