Instructions are given in written line by line format and full charts. Shawl is worked from the bottom up. Pattern #7 from A Hobbit's Journey The Lord of the Eagles shawl was inspired by The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien. This shawl was designed for worsted or aran weight yarn. If heavier shawls aren't your thing than follow the instructions for the larger size using a lighter yarn (fingering or sport) and smaller needles (US6). The resulting shawl should have approximately a 60-65" wingspan post blocking. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Slip stitches Decrease (instructions given for each type in Stitch Guide section) Make 1 lifted increase (instructions in Stitch Guide) GAUGE Pre Blocking: 14 sts & 24 rows = 4" in garter st 12 sts & 16 rows = 4" in St st Post Blocking: 11 sts & 20 rows = 4" in garter st 10 sts & 12 rows = 4" in St st SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Pre Blocking: 55" wingspan x 16" deep at center / Post Blocking: 68" wingspan x 20" deep at center SUGGESTED YARN 550 yards of Chunky weight PREFERRED BRAND/YARN Fiddle Knits, Adagio COLORWAY Natural and Teddy Bear
