Spooky! Jazz up and upcycle a jar to create the best dressed lanterns and candle lights around! I was inspired to design these when thinking of a way to add some atmosphere to my patio this year. I love the solar mason jar lanterns, but though how nice it would be to add vibrant colors and patterns to jazz them up a bit. So, I had the idea to create them to mimic the fishing net weights you see around for decor. Then I tested them out in the darkness of my bathroom and realized how fabulous and relaxing these are for the bath tub area, co-ordinated with the bathroom decor. There are so many uses for these. Add them to your preserve jars, for a special finish to your table presentation. These are fantastic stash busters and gifts. You also don't need to buy mason jars specially for these, just recycle a 1 pint / 454 - 500 ml jam jar get some spare yarn (these in the photos are made with cotton yarn,) and get knitting! My favorite presentation? Take a jam jar / mason jar, add a few colored glass stones in the bottom, add water half way and pop in a floating candle, et voila! A simple, pretty way to create a lovely atmosphere, with dancing light and shadow patterns for a bathroom soak, patio, sun room, outdoor gathering, dinner party or home. A creative Brit living in Colorado, I've been knitting since 7 years old. My big hobbies are landscape and skyscape photography, acrylic and oil painting. My latest knitting designs are "Western Fiberscapes" where I take my design influence from the photographs I take and other's I admire and turn them into fiberscapes. Knitting, is very therapeutic to me, it slows me down and centers me. I started creating my own patterns in 2011, just, well because and was amazed they sold on etsy. It was just a fun little hobby that earned me some holiday and yarn money that year. But, I got hooked (no pun intended!) and really love the creative process, combining stitches for textures along with combined with the math calulation. Sometimes I find an interesting stitch technique and fabric and imagine a design in it. Sometimes it takes many weeks and trial and errors to work something out. I can't tell you how many times I start, get 1/2 way and then pull it out and start again! As of fall 2015, I'm becoming more focused on the artistic side of knitting. I've been studying mosaic knitting, which I love and playing with blending color - as with Canyonlands. "Navaho Sunsets" has a mix of mosaic and blending colors, while "Eagle Mountain" was inspired by the bald eagles soaring on the thermals above the mountain and canyon behind my house in the foothills of Colorado and Native American art and symbols.. I'm always willing to help my customers with any questions and welcome feedback to improve or add patterns that customers suggest. Happy knitting! Karen
