Inspired by the enjoyment of a solitary hike and a love for Robert Frost poems, the Back Roads hat proves to be an interesting knit, with lots of twists and turns all its own. Details include a cable rib brim and curving lines of stockinette interlaced with slip stitches and garter stitch. Pattern includes both charted and written directions so the ability to read a chart is not necessary in order to work this pattern. The pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knit to reduce the potential for error. So, put those hiking boots on, pull on this stylish cap and take a lesson from Robert Frost. Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. --Robert Frost (1874-1963), The Road Not Taken BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Knit and purl stitches Knit in the round No cable needle 2 stitch cables Knitting through the back loop Slipped stitches Increase and decrease stitches - M1L, PFB, k2tog, ssk, CDD GAUGE 21 stitches/32 rounds to 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch, unblocked. 28 stitches/37 rounds to 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in body pattern stitch, unblocked. Whether you are new to knitting or have been knitting since you can’t remember when, I hope that you will enjoy my patterns. I strive to keep my patterns as straightforward as possible given the techniques being applied. I don’t want someone relatively new to knitting to be intimidated by my patterns. Nearly all of my patterns are charted, but still include full written instructions, so no worries if you prefer not to use charts. I am always happy to hear from fellow knitters and welcome questions on any of my designs - before or after purchase. Knit happy!
