I love hats, - I'd wear them all year round if I could. Although this hat is mostly wool, the 4ply yarn and the yarn overs make Autumn Gold a lightweight hat suitable for the inbetween seasons. Knit in the round, the pattern is made up of lace and cable stitches, so your fingers won't get bored! This pattern has been written with everyone in mind, and consequently has instructions for right handed knitters, and left handed mirror knitters. There is also an option in the pattern for those of you wishing to make a shorter, more beanie style hat than the one in the photos. A note is given when to start decreasing to achieve this effect. I chose to use Fyberspates 4ply Rural Charm, which is 70% Blue Faced Leicester, 20% silk and 10% Cashmere. Yum! As soon as I had my hands on a skein I had to bring it home, but it was a while before it told me what it wanted to be. I think you'll agree the stitch pattern works fabulously in it (if I don't say so myself). My mum taught me to knit when I was 5 - I have early memories of sitting with a skein around my wrists while she wound it into a ball. I had a big imagination though and I suppose got interested in other things until I was older. When I was 21, I found myself at a houseparty, and one of the girls there had a bag of knitting. I thought it was so cool, I made her remind me there and then, and since that evening I’ve been hooked. I love the whole process of buying a ball of yarn and turning it into a beautiful garment. I’ve been blogging since 2008 about life, art and things I have been making and selling, and I have been designing for the last couple of years. I trained in pattern cutting and dressmaking and found that the skills I learnt developed into an urge to design knitwear. I’m currently putting patterns together my first book, some of which you can buy here or on my website. I also have a Ravelry group where people can share pictures of my designs, I would love for you to join! You can connect with me on Twitter, see what inspires me on Pinterest, and follow my blog at
