PATTERN DETAILS

"Atoll Shawl" is a generously sized, half-hex shaped shawl that stays on your shoulders. A simple lace panel accents each of the three 'hex' sections, and forms the deep lace border. Using a crochet chain bind off keeps the lower edge soft and easy to block. Light weight yet warm - closed with a shawl pin or wrapped like a scarf - this is a shawl you'll wear often. It even works well used as for a head & neck covering! (I find myself doing this a lot with my shawls, rather than wearing a hat.) "Atoll Shawl" was inspired by the gentle waves that caresses a lagoon. It is the first of four shawls in my Earth's Elements Series. Using just St st and a simple lace stitch pattern, Atoll makes a perfect first lace project, while being interesting enough for more advanced knitters. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY knit yarn overs k2tog & ssk decreases purl GAUGE 20 sts and 31 rows = 4 inches in St st A minor difference in gauge will not affect the success of this project, although it may affect the yarn requirements. • 820 yds/7 oz fingering weight yarn

Desert Rose Fiber Arts
I've been a 'crafter' all my life, and especially enjoy fiber arts. My first professional design was published in 2005, and since then I've had my designs published in knit.wear, Knitscene, Creative Knitting, Love of Knitting, Knitcircus, Twist Collective, Three Irish Girls Yarns, Universal Yarns, and Cascade Yarns, along with several books by DRG Publications. When not knitting, thinking about knitting or dreaming up new designs, I love spending time with my husband and pets, in the high plains of Colorado where we live.
