Pattern Details

What makes this entrelac hat unique? The entire upper hat is worked in entrelac - including the shaping! As it comes off the needles, it's a cap, but block it over a plate and it's a beret. It is also super stretchy to comfortably fit a range of head sizes. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY follow directions closely, provisional cast on (optional), work in the round on circular needle, knit, purl, ribbing, stockinette stitch, slip stitches, using markers, purl two sts together and ssk decreases, pick up sts knitwise and purlwise, 3-needle bind off GAUGE 22-24 sts and approx. 30 rows over 10 cm/4 in (since this hat is so stretchy, an exact gauge is not critical) SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Size: to fit most adults and teens. SUGGESTED YARN 200 yards of DK weight

Recommended with this pattern

  • Approximately 200 yds light dk/heavy sport weight yarn to match gauge - additional yarn may be required to avoid color pooling; 16" circular needle, size US #6/4 mm; Spare circular needle, size US #6/4 mm or slightly smaller, any length
  • Stitch markers, tapestry needle

Like many of you, I am a mom, a wife, an employee, a community volunteer and a knitter, although not necessarily in that order. Back in the mid-2000’s I started publishing my designs in magazines such as Interweave Knits, Knitter’s, Vogue Knitting and Noro. I’ve also been included in several books, including the cover design of Knit Noro. Recently I started self-publishing patterns. While the initial patterns have been more challenging (reflecting the classes I teach), I am adding simpler patterns, and also hope to add some garments soon. My blog, Woolly-Wits, focuses on finding designs to flatter any figure, but especially those that stray widely from the super-model-esque. My teaching experience includes both local shops and larger events, such as Stitches, YarnCon and the Madison Knitters Guild Knit-In. I have also given talks to guilds.
