Painted Embroidery Wall Hanging

Project Description

What are you most proud of? This is an original idea, and a twist on regular fabric painting. Actually, my focus is on the finished look - that of an embroidered piece of unique fabric-art. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Choose a piece of fabric with fairly large spaces to fill in with paint as the smaller spaces demand quite a lot of time and patience, as well as some care to keep the paint from running outside the outlines. Stick with it and complete the project even though you may feel a little overwhelmed half way through! The final effect is well-worth the effort and wait. Have fun :)

What you will need

  • A 110cm x 75cm piece of fabric with machine embroidery
  • a plain piece of white fabric for backing
  • fabric paints
  • fine brush
  • 75cm of velvet ribbon
  • no. 10 crochet thread and crewelling needle
  • scissors
