BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, treble crochet US crochet terms GAUGE Gauge checkpoints are given in the pattern. Gauge is very important for proper sizing of the hat. Please take the time to check for proper gauge and adjust yarn or hook size as necessary. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS XSmall fits approximate 12.5-14" head circumference (premie/newborn) Small fits approximate 14.5-16" head circumference (newborn to 6 months) Medium fits approximate 16.5-18" head circumference (3 - 9 months) Large fits approximate 18.5-20" head circumference (9 months - 3 years) XLarge fits approximate 20.5-22" head circumference (3 years-teen) A Note about sizing-please keep in mind these sizes and ages are approximate. If the child you are making the hat for is right on the edge of the size guideline, you may want to make the larger size. I've been crocheting for a number of years now. I started out to find something to keep my hands busy while watching TV-better than snacking. I very quickly became addicted. When I found myself altering patterns I decided it was time to start designing my own. I began crocheting children's hats for Halos of Hope in 2010. They are a great organization that sends soft hats to chemo centers all over the USA. I hope my silly hats can bring some happiness to a child fighting a terrible disease.
