PATTERN DETAILS

I call this my "Night Before Christmas Neck Warmer" because I published the pattern on Christmas Eve. And this cozy little neckerchief whips up faster than milk and cookies for Santa. It's perfect for a last-minute stocking stuffer or any wintertime gift. For those of you who like vintage stuff, I got the inspiration for the reversible stitch from an ancient McCalls needlework book that I scored for $2 at a used bookstore. It's a first printing from the 50s and terribly beat up, which we all know means well-loved. :-) The PDF pattern includes a photo tutorial of how to do the reversible stitch, and it also links to a very short video where you can see me actually perform the stitch. It's a smorgasbord for visual learners, if I do say so myself. As for the neck-and-heart-warming garment itself, it's a true neck warmer. It's not really a cowl. It does bunch a little bit, but it doesn't hang or drape like a traditional cowl, and it won't keep your chest warm. But it WILL stand up and cover your nose, which is a huge plus if you aren't really crazy about the whole Rudolph look. I'm very indecisive when it comes to choosing yarn colors, so this pattern is perfect if you share this maddening trait with me. Can't decide between two colors? Use both! And the finished product is basically two neck warmers in one. If you use a fuzzy yarn for the inside color, it gives the effect of a plush fur lining.
