Another new baby in the 'hood....a boy. Means only one thing....... another baby blanket. A nice simple stitch in an easy to do and contemporary graduated stripe. This can be made in any DK yarn. I used Stylecraft Life DK in classic, but not traditional baby colours. It is one of my favourite wool mix yarns and has a real quality soft feel. What's more it washes and wears well and doesn't break the bank. This is a great project for beginners who are looking to progress further. I've made an easy to follow pattern with a chart for those more visually inclined, plus a guide to the graduated stripe pattern. This makes a great gift that will be used and treasured for years to come BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Crochet - Knowledge of chain, slip stitch, half treble stitches. This is a good '2nd-stage' pattern when you have mastered the crochet technique GAUGE Approx 20 sts to 11cm, 8rows to 10cm. This is the initial unlaundered tension only and, because of the stretchy nature of the finished item, is approximate. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Measurements Length - approx 98cm (30 and 3/4 inches) Width - approx 98cm (30 inches) These are initial measurements before use or laundering and, due to the stretchy nature of the blanket, are approximate. PREFERRED BRAND/YARN I used Stylecraft Life, but any favourite DK will do. COLORWAY I used, Blue Haze, Cream and Fern. Just think of the other colour ways you could also use. The options are endless.

Recommended with this pattern

  • 1 x 4mm crochet hook, 1x large knitting sewing needle (a large tapestry needle will also be suitable)
  • Approx 3 x 100g DK yarn - wool/acrylic mix. You will need lessor 100% acrylic and possibly a little more for 100% wool
  • Not much experience or patience, this one is easy and works up quite quickly

There's more to handmade than granny squares. A slighlty different approach from a fashion/product design perspective. Using the textile element with practical and simple designs solutions to provide you with the info to make cool stuff that you will use. I'm a trained designer pattern maker. I've been making stuff for as long as I can remember. I've worked for many large UK fashion retailers but had to give up my job to have a family, so now I do it for myself... and share it with you.
