Traditional wedding cake.

Project Description

Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake Royal icing, fondant icing, florist's wire and tape, wire cutters, pattern for lace edging ( I drew my own) Cling film & an thin boards or trays, columns & dowelling,Tragacanth icing. What are you most proud of? All of it, especially as this was my first attempt! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Make plenty of extra edging pieces in Royal icing. These delicate pieces are piped individually and stuck on one at a time... there will be breakages ! I drew a pattern, photocopied it, so that I had 50 images to a sheet. This was then taped to a board & covered with cling film. The images were royal iced & left to dry. I left them on the boards until I was ready to apply them to the cake. The flowers & leaves were all made from tragacanth icing, individually wired & taped to form sprays. Although time consuming the finished effect was worth it. Allow yourself plenty of time to make them... the bonus is that they can be made well in advance & stored until needed.

Congratulations! this is a work of art. Having decorated cakes for 30 + years, I appreciate the delicate nature of this cake. Not to mention the steady hand you must have. And I too love the traditional cakes. Not as much call for them but they truly are beautiful.
