I had looked around online for ideas on how to do that but didn't see anything that really struck me. I ended up using gumpaste for all of it. The standing frame has toothpicks inside so it would stick into the cake. I cut the arm as best I could and fashioned a block to support it from underneath, then let it all dry. I had to re-cut the arm after it had dried as I hadn't allowed space for the cable drum, but it turned out OK. I loved the cactus too. I sponge painted blue gel color on the side, but didn't think it was blue enough so I went over it with blue color dust, and the rest with a combo of brown, orange, and a little green for that rusted, matte look. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Research Mater. He's a simple shape and sort of boxy so carving him isn't hard, but the devil is in the details.
