Spongebob Birthday Cake For Twin Boys

Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake Fondant, Modeling Chocolate, Gum Paste, Buttercream Icing, Cake What are you most proud of? The twins recognized everything on the cake! For a two year old to recognize everything told me that I did a good job replicating the items. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Plan out every detail on your cake. These type of cakes take many days of prep work before assembling the final cake. I usually do my gumpaste pieces a week prior to needing the cake done so that these items have time to properly dry. I also like to do the modeling chocolate pieces after I do the gumpaste items. I do the cake baking two days prior to constructing the cake so that I have time to fill cakes and dirty ice them. This gives the cake time to settle and time to get good and cold so that it is easier to apply fondant/modeling chocolate. The day before it's due, then you assemble everything on the cake. Doing these cakes spread out over time gives you time if something goes wrong to fix it and you don't get rushed.
