Simple orchid cake

Project Description

Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake I haven't had much luck stencilling with royal icing so wanted to try using a sponge loaded with edible paint. The effect wasn't too bad actually. What are you most proud of? It's only a small thing, but I'm proud of the colour inside the orchid. My first attempt was horrendous! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Make spare throats in case of breakages (or in my case, poor painting skills)

Hi! Your ochid and general decor is very, very nice! But what caught my eye was... the inside!! Coud you tell me the flavors of cake & filling?? Thank youuuu!!
kitstar answered:
Hahaha I didn't get a chance to taste it myself (it was a gift to someone) but I'm assured it was delicious! It's 4 layers of the Brooklyn Blackout cake recipe from the Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook, sandwiching layers of peanut butter cream cheese frosting and home-made caramel sauce. It's based on a snickers bar =)

Gorgeous job on the orchid! What brand of cutters did you use?
kitstar answered:
Hi! Sorry for my late reply, I used the ones made by sunflower sugar art: http://www.globalsugarart.com/phalaenopsis-moth-orchid-set-sv-029-by-sunflower-sugar-art-p-19039.html
