Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake Silicone plastique, Seal-Dit, Safe-D-Clay, lace applique, fondant What are you most proud of? That it was so intricately detailed and that it actually worked first time! I don't know if it was because it was my first time, but it took me longer than 15 minutes to cover it. Luckily the silicone plastique was forgiving. I was surprised that the end result worked out as well as it did given how long it took me. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Choose your lace wisely and start with smaller pieces on your first attempt. I didn't read the Ebay description properly and thought this would be much smaller than the 6.5cm x 16cm piece of lace I received! Also, next time I will roll the Safe-D-Clay thinner so the end product doesn't look so bulky. Brushing it lightly with a vodka/lustre dust mix brings out the lace fibre details, as does cutting out extra holes where appropriate. It's not so much difficult as it is time-consuming, mainly with cutting around the Safe-D-Clay and ensuring that the outline is supported and has no air bubbles. Aside from that, don't be afraid to give it a go!
