Gift box cake

Project Description

Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake Fondant, Royal icing, floral wire, petal dust. food colour and tubes to form bows What are you most proud of? The finished product. And it won first prize in my local show. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Do the flowers and the loops on the bows well ahead of time to allow the bows to set hard. And the little dots of royal icing on the bows willl come off if you bump them so work furthest away to closer, so you dont lean over your work.

What you will need

  • Fondant
  • Royal icing
  • floral wire
  • petal dust. food colour and tubes to form bows

Q&A with Sally Ryan

PVM asked:
Hi Sally, The original would have been my cake that you saw on Pinterest. I think that you have done a fabulous job with it and I am pleased for both of us that you won first prize in your local show. It mignt interest you to know that it was picked as Cake of the Week by Brides.com NY last year. As it happens I have just finished a second version of the cake which I was asked to do along with accompanying cupcakes and biscuits. www.flickr.com/photos/64101107@N03/6027364570/in/photostream madewithlovebyme.wordpress.com/

La Torta Dolce asked:
Beautiful Cake! May I ask how did you create the box cover? Thank you. :)
Sally Ryan answered:
You roll out the fonddant and cut it to size.. Allow to dry flat on foam then stick on to the cake with royal icing.. You can also place the fondant over the cake in one sheet and cut the edges and then sharpen the corners, but i find this tricky.
