Share a little about the materials, processes, and techniques used to create this cake White Shortening Cake Recipe/Buttercream Recipe/Chocolate Mousse Recipe/Fondant/Gumpaste/Floral Wire/Starfish Mold/Brown Sugar/Cake Airbrush Machine & Paint/Premolded Chocolate Seashells What are you most proud of? I am proud of the whole thing, really. I used a mold to make the starfish, but the sand dollars, fence and coral are hand crafted out of gumpaste. I airbrushed the sky and handpainted the sea grass and birds. My parents loved their names written in the "sand". What advice would you give someone starting this project? To achieve the light brown I blended chocolate and white fondant. I couldn't get the color I wanted with icing coloring, which was frustrating. I purchased the pre-colored sky blue fondant and lightened it up by blending in some white. Then I airbrushed royal blue across the middle of the cake and light brown across the bottom of the cake. I used airbrush paint and hand painted the seagrass and birds. I purchased the chocolate sea shells pre-molded. If I made this cake again, I wouldn't use brown sugar. It was sticky and didn't flow like I wanted. I would try raw sugar or something like that.
