The fact that it turned out as good as it did. It actually looked like my camera!!! What advice would you give someone starting this project? I chose to make a Red Velvet cake. It was moist, and solid enough to be carved. I could have made the camera out of rice krispie treats, but wanted the person cutting the cake to be able to cut through the entire thing. The easiest way to carve a cake is to freeze it first. Prior to taking it from the freezer, you should have a clear plan of action so that you can complete the carving as quickly as possible. Plus, freezing the cake actually improves on the flavour of a cake. After carving, I then refridgerated the camera while I made the icing. First, I covered the camera in a buttercream icing, basically to "crumb coat" it, then placed it back in the fridge while I worked with the fondant. Then the camera was covered in black fondant, shaped with tools to add texture to certain areas, and fondant dials etc. were added. I then finished it off by using royal icing to add the markings. (My hands can be a little shaky, so the markings aren't as clean as I would like.) I the made the strap out of more black fondant, and textured it with some embroidery/cross-stitch fabric.
