Hockey Memory quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? The whole quilt is hand quilted using several different patterns to emphasize the design of the individual blocks and sashing. What advice would you give someone starting this project? make sure you leave adequate margins around any pieces you cut out of the jerseys. It's much easier to trim than to figure out alternative ways to attach design elements later! I ended up hand sewing numbers and figures onto blocks because I didn't anticipate the fused plastic material being a problem for my sewing machine. If I had left wider margins, I could have machine appliqued them.

What you will need

  • hockey jersey's
  • co-ordinating fabric
  • warm and natural batting

Where did you find the pattern for this. I am looking at doing one for my grandson.
marymichelle answered:
I made it up myself. It's not hard to do, I used the fronts of his outgrown practice jerseys for the 4 corners (they all had the same hockey player design in different colors. The top center and bottom center were parts of his outgrown game jerseys and the center left and right blocks were parts of the game jersey shoulders. The center block was from a playoff t-shirt. I just made all the blocks the same size and added sashing in between. My daughter takes it to every hockey game and she gets loads of compliments every time :)
