What materials did you use? "Stars & Stripes" cotton fabric collection, cotton thread, paper foundation.

What are you most proud of? I increased the 6 inch pattern to a 7 inch pattern, then put it on point and added setting triangles. I need to make 12 inch finished blocks for the swap. This pattern (Spring Fling 2012 by Carol Doak) did not include a cutting list. I cut it apart and measured each piece, adding 1/2 inch all around to make the list myself. I had no problem covering each area including the seam allowance. The points came out great!

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Don't be afraid and have fun! The more I do this the easier it gets. If you like the Mastering Foundation Paper Piecing class you might consider joining Carol's yahoo group. They're a fun bunch who are very helpful!

Love your patriotic piece Jean - you certainly are good with the PP - I didn't enjoy that but you seem to have taken to it like a duck to water. Your work just gets better and better.

Thanks Beth but I have to admit PP just isn't my bag. I only did this because I decided to try PP again with the "Queen of PP" - Carol Doak. I joined the yahoo group and gave it a go but quickly withdrew. I can do PP but I don't enjoy it at all :D

You really are a clever lady, Jean! I read your explanation of how you did this with great interest (and awe). Well done - it's amazing!

Thanks so much Patz! I owe a lot to the 2013 BOM lesson on drafting. Thanks to the teacher, Laura, I had the confidence to go for it :D

Great job all around. I really love paper piecing also and the Craftsy instructors are all terrific at explaining and passing on their love of this method of quilting.

Thanks for the kudos Ladymax! I have to admit I really dislike paper piecing. Though I can do it I find it too tedious and I always have trouble covering the areas no matter how hard I try. Recently I vowed I will substitute blocks rather do another paper pieced one Its just no fun for me :D

That is the choice we all have to make. If it isn't fun, don't do it. Our quilting is supposed to be FUN.

I couldn't agree more!
