Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this cake: I used Royal Icing for the flowers on top of a buttercream, which, has a natural yellow tone to it.

What are you most proud of? I have a fear of sugar. This class helped me, however, the cake slammed into my bowls after sliding off my turn-table. (I had it on wax paper). I had to figure out a way to cover up my dented, beat up cake disaster....flowers to the rescue! No one will know my accident in the kitchen. Flowers are God's way of forgiving us.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? I made violet sweat peas. I don't know if there's such a thing, but, I did it anyway. I guess my advice would be, if you want to do something nontraditional, why not try it and see.

Gorgeous cake! We'd never know about its little accident if you hadn't told us. I love the delicate color of the petals. All those sweet peas! That must have taken forever! Well worth all the work you put into it.

This is an amazing example of taking a technique learned in this class and making it your own. The sweet peas look totally different on this cake than in the one presented in the class materials. I love this cake. Wonderful job!

Lovely! What's the size of the cake and how long did it take you to make all the the flowers?

Hi KCB Cakes, it is an 8 in round, and the flowers were piped quickly; pipe them on a flat surface on parchment or a silicone mat, and it will take less than 45 minutes. I work at a heart hospital and was going through nursing school at the time, so I had very limited time and patience! I piped these earlier in the week.
