Meet Frederick. Or Fred to his friends. He's a very happy chap. He's great for using up odd bits of yarn and only takes a couple of hours to create. Skills required are knitting in the round, increasing and decreasing stitches so he would be ideal for an advanced beginner. Use sock yarn for a mini snowman or chunky yarn for a huge one, just remember that your gauge needs to be tight enough that no stuffing will show through. This would make a lovely gift for a child but make sure you use safety eyes or glue on felt facial features. Also included in the pattern is a photo tutorial for making a small sachet to give him a bit of weight. GAUGE 24 sts and 32 rows to 4? (Not essential as long as it is tight enough that no stuffing shows through.) SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Fred stands ~12cm (4.75?) tall. SUGGESTED YARN 70 yards of DK weight

Supplies Needed

  • 3mm (US#2.5) dpns or circular needle.
  • 25g DK weight yarn
  • 10g DK weight yarn

I love the creativity of knitting and enjoy exploring new colours, fibres and techniques. I learnt to knit when I was five (I think!) from my mum and grandparents, since then I haven't stopped! As an experienced knitter I take a lot of time and care over my knitting patterns to ensure that they are as accessible as possible to newer knitters, you will often find helpful hints, tips and ideas dotted around my patterns. For some patterns there are help pages at the end, brilliant for less experienced knitters but can also be easily omitted by more experienced knitters who want to save their printer ink. I enjoy sharing my craft and skills and hope to introduce many more people to knitting. I hope you have as much fun knitting my designs as I did creating them!
