Im Elizabeth Smith and designing knitting patterns is my passion. I strive to create simple, modern designs and write patterns for them that are easy to follow and fun to knit. Most of my patterns are seamless and many are knit from the top-down. They are written with the beginner knitter in mind, providing lots of detailed instructions. I provide pattern support for all my designs so feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions-I love to help and make sure my customers enjoy the knitting process (not to mention the finished piece!)View all patterns by designer (46) »
Nothing says deep autumn like a wool vest. As the leaves begin to accumulate on the almost frozen ground, a bulky vest is the perfect layering option to keep you warm. The shawl collar and slight waist shaping of Freeport give it a fitted, sophisticated look while the inside-out stripes give it a more unique and artisan feel than your standard wool vest. The hip to underarm section is worked in stockinette while the top portion is worked in garter stitch with stripes every other row.
This is a great project for a beginner knitter who is ready to try out a few new techniques, most notably short row shaping, the three needle bind off technique, as well as the Elizabeth Zimmerman "Phony Seam" technique (from her book "Knitting Without Tears.") This technique allows you to get the look and feel of a side seam while still working your garment seamlesslyit's quite ingenious!
A seamless knit using bulky-weight yarn (I used Lamb's Pride Bulky) and sized from XS-3X, Freeport will knit up fast and be a great addition to your autumn and winter wardrobe.
