Cat Eyes & Fur (32:52)
Begin your cat portrait by adding layers of color to the eyes. Gemma shows how to capture the depth, texture and highlights of the iris, pupil and eyelids. Then sketch in the fur around the eyes and on the top of the head using Gemma’s tips for achieving a natural look.
Cat Noses, Muzzles & Ears (34:57)
Even cats’ tiny noses are highly textured. See how to replicate those textures and complex colors with Gemma’s guidance. Add fur around the muzzle and detail to the ears. Learn to use a colorless blending pencil and blending brush, and see how to vary pencil strokes and pressure for a natural look.
Cat Mouths, Chins & Chest Fur (22:59)
Define the cat’s mouth and add hair to the chin and chest, using a clumping technique to mimic longer fur. Gemma shows you how to add realistic whiskers and discusses the importance of recreating the tonal values of your reference photo to achieve convincing depth in your drawing.
Dog Eyes & Fur (26:56)
Begin your dog portrait by capturing the color and highlights of the expressive eyes. Gemma demonstrates with a portrait of a boxer, showing you how to add the fur around the eyes, including subtle eyelashes and the white blaze in middle of its forehead.
Dog Noses, Muzzles & Ears (29:19)
Replicate the unique texture and shine of a dog’s nose with Gemma’s techniques, using warm and cool colors. Continue mixing colors and varying strokes to add hair to the dog’s muzzle and ears. Gemma shows how to create smooth transitions and tackle the challenge of a variegated coat.

Gemma Gylling developed her love of nature, animals and creativity while growing up on a small ranch in Southern California. Today, Gemma has been creating art in colored pencils for over 15 years, and she loves to draw animals of all types. Her award-winning work has been widely exhibited and featured in a variety of books and publications. Gemma enjoys teaching colored pencil workshops at the University of the Pacific, throughout the U.S. and on Craftsy.

Will the companion materials come with my DVD class?
Any downloadable class PDF materials are not included on the DVD, so you will not have access to those materials. While the video instruction on your DVD is complete, you must have streaming access to download the PDF materials associated with the class. You can purchase streaming access or a combination DVD + Streaming access on Craftsy.com.
Do I have to purchase a Craftsy Membership to get my class?
No, you do not. Every DVD-only class purchased on Craftsy.com includes the physical DVD in the mail. The physical disc(s) are yours to keep forever, with or without a Craftsy membership.
Are DVDs included in a Craftsy Membership?
No, they are not. DVDs can only be purchased on an individual basis and are not included in Craftsy memberships. For non-members, DVDs are a flexible way to purchase only the classes you love best. For members, DVDs are a great choice to build an at-home library you can keep forever and enjoy any time, with or without Internet access.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we do ship most physical products, including DVDs, to several International destinations. In addition to the USA and Canada, we ship to Australia, Brazil, India, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, and most Western European countries. If you live outside these countries, you can still purchase digital items including memberships, individual streaming classes, and pattern downloads.
Do your DVDs work on international players?
Yes, our DVDs should be compatible with any DVD player in use today. All our videos have been created with all current Region Codes (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8). If you have trouble viewing a DVD purchased from Craftsy.com, please contact Customer Service.
What is your return policy?
We want to be sure you’re satisfied. If you have trouble playing your DVD, if the content is not correctly presented on the DVD, or you are dissatisfied with the content of your class, we will work with you. Contact Craftsy Customer Service via email or phone. Upon your request, and upon your return of the DVD to us, we will refund your purchase price or send you another DVD to replace a damaged or incorrect DVD, whichever is your preference.
