Garter Rib Stitch
Mary Beth TempleThe Garter Rib Stitch Pattern is a knitting stitch that combines knit and purl stitches. It is similar to standard ribbing patterns like 2x2 ribbing (knit two stitches, purl two stitches), but instead of alternating Stockinette and reverse Stockinette stitches, the garter rib alternates Stockinette stitch with garter stitch.
This pattern is less elastic than traditional ribbing, so it's important to think carefully about where to use it on your project. The garter rib is an excellent choice for adding decorative details, such as at the neckline of a sweater or other areas where you want a stylish touch.
