Fun Knitting Tools
Jen LucasAs you continue knitting, you may find yourself collecting more tools to enhance your craft. While all you truly need to begin your knitting journey is a pair of needles and some yarn, you might discover that there are additional supplies and tools that make the process more enjoyable. In this video, knitting expert Jen Lucas shares some of her favorite tools that she has gathered over 20 years of knitting, which she regularly uses. She emphasizes that while these are not essential for a great knitting experience, they are items she finds both fun and useful for her needs.
Jen starts by discussing a yarn swift and a ball winder. These tools are especially helpful if you often use hand-dyed yarns or yarns that come in hanks. While you can knit directly from a hank, winding it into a ball makes the process much easier. Jen demonstrates how to set up a hank on the swift and then shows how to wind it into a ball using the ball winder.
Jen also shares several handmade tools she enjoys using. While some of these items are mass-produced, she prefers to support small businesses by purchasing handmade versions whenever possible. She highlights items like needle gauges, sock rulers, sock blockers, and even knitting jewelry.
