Embroidery hoops aren’t just for embroidery—they can be used in various sewing projects as well. Learn a creative new craft using embroidery hoops, different sizes of hoops, cotton fabric, and fusible felt applique shapes with Ashley Hough as your guide.

The key design element for this craft is felt shapes attached to cotton fabric. Ashley demonstrates how to create sewing-themed shapes like small scissors, seam rippers, and thread spools. She shows how to trace these shapes onto the paper side of fusible web and then apply them to the wrong side of the felt.

Since the traced shape will be reversed when cut out, Ashley advises reversing any directional shapes before tracing and fusing. She then demonstrates how to carefully cut out the shapes with small scissors.

Once the shapes are cut out, Ashley explains how to arrange them on the cotton fabric within the embroidery hoop, ensuring the design fits well inside. She then removes the paper backing from the shapes and fuses them to the fabric. Afterward, the fabric is placed into the hoop, completing the project.

For an added finishing touch, Ashley demonstrates a simple running stitch to secure the raw edges of the cotton fabric behind the hoop, neatly hiding them.
