Book Cover
Nicki LaFoilleIf your book cover is looking worn, scuffed, or simply not appealing, this video will guide you through creating a book jacket with beautiful fabrics of your choice.
Quilting cotton is an excellent fabric option for a book cover, as it is durable and comes in a wide variety of lovely prints. The fabric used in this video is from Windham Fabrics.
To ensure your fabric book cover fits your book perfectly, Nicki demonstrates how to measure the dimensions of the book and cut the appropriate size rectangles. The book cover is fully reversible, allowing you to choose two different fabrics and switch between them for a fresh look without needing to make a new cover.
For added personalization, you can decorate the front of the fabric cover with embroidery, paints, or a couched monogram to give it a unique touch.
If you’re prone to losing bookmarks, Nicki shows how to add a built-in bookmark. Grosgrain ribbon, satin ribbon, or lace work well for this purpose. The bookmark should be stitched along the upper edge of the back side of the cover, particularly if you've decorated the front.
Nicki demonstrates how to stitch the rectangle edges to form the "pockets" where the book will slide in. Once the fabric book jacket is turned right side out and the pockets are folded correctly, she shows how to topstitch the edges of the pockets for a neat, professional finish.
Make one to personalize each of your notebooks or to protect a beloved book.
